São Bento Railway Station is one of the most beautiful train stations in the world, renowned for its stunning azulejo (blue-and-white tile) murals. Located near Avenida dos Aliados, the station serves as a major transport hub while also being an architectural masterpiece and a historic landmark. most striking features is its 20,000 azulejo tiles, hand-painted ceramic tiles which cover the main entrance hall.

Designed by José Marques da Silva, the station was built on the site of a former Benedictine monastery and officially opened in 1916. The building features a French Beaux-Arts architectural style, with a grand entrance hall, high ceilings, and intricate ironwork in its arched windows and roof structure. These hand-painted ceramic tiles, created by artist Jorge Colaço in 1905–1916, depict key moments in Portuguese history, such as: The Battle of Valdevez (1140), The Conquest of Ceuta (1415), and The Marriage of King John I and Philippa of Lancaster (1387).
