The Remarkables, Queenstown Overview

A famous mountain range for skiing, the Remarkables is 45 minutes away from central Queenstown and is open from June to October. The stats for the official trail are 30% black, 40% intermediate and 30% beginner. Well suited for beginners and easy terrain for the intermediates, it also has steep chutes and advanced slopes for expert skiers. It has a 357-meter vertical drop, and a landscape spread across 220 hectares. Its defining features are north-facing sunny slopes, high altitude and a friendly atmosphere.

Best Time To Visit The Remarkables

The Remarkables ski field remains open between June and October. The annual snowfall is only 3.5-4 meters. To score a big powder day, the advanced skiers need to be extremely lucky. The best part is that they have installed about 100 snow guns to supplement the snow cover.

Boarders and freestylers along with advanced and intermediate skiers can Sugar Bowl. The Sugar Bowl, The Stash and the Freestyle Zone offer a mecca for fun for the kids (and adults!). The ski resort also has three magic carpets and four chair lifts. For the shredder, the Burton Stash Park adds a variety of opportunities along with the impressive terrain parks. Passes and Cost

Kids below the age of five years along with Super Seniors aged 75 years or more are allowed free day lift passes on all days. Adults are charged between $95.00 and $129.00. There are different rates for seniors (aged 65-74 years) and the youth (aged 6-17 years). If you have planned a skiing vacation, you can save on prices with the multi-day lift pass. For instance, for a 6-day pass you need to pay $80.00 per day.

Facilities

On-mountain accommodation is not available. You can book accommodation at Queenstown.

The base building contains most of the facilities of the Remarkables Ski Resort. The day lodge is home to a huge cafeteria, ski and snowboard hire, a retail shop and a ski school. The indoor eating area offers great views to visitors, as does the outer deck. Town transfers are easily available from the ski resort.

The ski area has both half-day and full-day lesson programs for kids above the age of four years. It also offers holiday programs during school holidays in New Zealand and Australia.

How To Reach The Remarkables

On the South Island of New Zealand, the Remarkables ski field nests within the Remarkables mountain range. It is 18 km from Queenstown airport and 24 km from Queenstown. The travel time is 30 minutes and 45 minutes approximately, from the two places.

If you are unfamiliar with driving in the snow, the road to the resort can offer a daunting task. You can alternatively catch the shuttle bus which offers regular pick up and drop services between the ski field and Queenstown.
