The modes of transportation within the city include the auto rickshaws, public buses and cab services. Auto rickshaws are most often used for commuting within the city. They can be shared or private, and the cost differs accordingly. The public bus services are run by RCBL or Raipur City Bus Limited, the Raipur Municipal Corporation and the Raipur Nagar Nigam Transport Limited or RNNTL. With the development of Naya Raipur, a rapid bus system called the Naya Raipur-Raipur BRTS had been introduced for efficient and quick transport. Besides, one can also book a cab through the various private cab service providers for commuting within the city or travelling to the surrounding cities.
The autos, however, are the cheapest mode of transport. They are easy for short distance travel and are in many numbers catering to the large population of the city. But for long-distance travel, especially to surrounding cities of Durg, Bhatapara or Kharora the public and private bus travels are faster and more frequent. Trains are also available for travelling to the nearby cities as well as, other major cities of the country.
Naya Raipur also has a public cycle sharing system that encourages commuters to use cycles as a means of commute. Raipur however, is a congested city with frequent crowds and traffic jams during office hours. The crowds thin out and traffic eases after the peak hours.
