Geropotamos Beach is a uncrowded beach located right next to the bridge on the main road connecting Heraklion and Rethymno. It is a pebble beach with a beach bar that rents sunloungers and umbrellas. It is not well-organised but a great place to unwind without many people around. There is also a luxurious hotel near the river that flows along the beach. The parking is free.
The beach boasts fine sand on land and pebbles in the water, with crystal-clear waters that remain cool year-round due to a nearby river forming a small lake near the shore. Unlike many other popular beaches, Geropotamos is quiet and not crowded, even during peak tourist seasons. The surrounding area is a natural shelter for rare birds and animals, including the endangered monk seals (Monachus monachus) and falcons. Just a few meters west of the main beach is Kamara, an amazing rocky arch with a tiny beach beneath it, accessible only by boat or a short swim.
Other Important Objective Information : A set of sunlougers and an umbrella is available at EUR 7. There are only 30 sunbeds on the beach.
