Spilies Beach is a quiet and secluded beach located a few kilometers east of Skaleta and west of Geropotamos. It is a small pebbly beach with stunning cavernous rocks and several sea caves with amazing formations. Free parking and a restaurant are available near the beach. There is also a beach bar that offers sun loungers and umbrellas. There are no free changing rooms or showers.
The beach can be affected by north winds, causing powerful waves. Visitors should be cautious, especially with children, as the water deepens quickly. The sea caves around the beach are important habitats for the Mediterranean monk seal. The collapsed sections of the caves and the natural rocky arch near Geropotamos are notable features worth exploring. If you decide to rent a car to reach this beach, drive east on the main road towards Heraklion. After passing Skaleta, look for the "Creta Farm" sign and two gas stations on both sides of the road. The road to the beach starts behind the gas station on the left side. To avoid turning left on the national road, enter the gas station on the right and turn back towards Rethymno. A draft sign (ΣΠΗΛΙΕΣ) marks the short road leading to the beach. While specific bus routes are not detailed, the proximity to the highway suggests that buses traveling between Heraklion and Rethymno may have stops nearby.
Other Important Objective Information : A set of sunlounger and an umbrella is available for EUR 6 onwards. A free parking space is avaialble.
