Lake Myvtain is a beautiful lake in Reykjavik, Iceland. Its surrounding area are often called Myvtan Geothermal Area. The lake and its surrounding wetlands are safeguarded as a natural reserve and are remarkably maintained by the locals. Birdwatching and cave hunting are two main activities to do here.
One can come across various facilities in and around the lake such as guesthouses, medical centres, restaurants, hotels etc. Dogsledding too can be taken up by tourists from a farm located to the south of Lake Myvatn from January until May. There is a variety of flora and fauna also to explore in this lake.One can find ample wildlife here, especially bird watching is an activity that usually takes place during the summers. Close to Lake Myvtain are two geothermal lava caves Grjótagjá and Stóragjá which can be visited. Many tourists also take a dip in the Myvtain Nature Baths, with the environment being pleasant around. Within Lake Myvtain is the Hverfjall Volcanic Center which is also an interesting spot to see. Apart from simply seeing the lake, one can come across different spots of interest near and in and around the lake thus attracting many tourists.
Duck species are one of the most prominent birds found in this lake, with the most famous and common bird being the harlequin duck.
