Butterflies Valley, Rhodes Island Overview

Butterfly Valley is a unique nature reserve located on the western side of Rhodes Island. It is approximately 10 kilometers from the airport, and 5 kilometers southeast of Theologos village. The butterfies valley in Rhodes attracts millions of butterflies during the summer and is the breeding spot for the Quadripunctaria Poda species of butterflies.

Butterfly Valley is renowned for its dense flora and the annual migration of butterflies. Each year, from May to September, thousands of these butterflies flock to the valley to reproduce, attracted by the high humidity and the sweet-smelling resin of the Liquidambar Styrax trees.  It is a great area to explore with the help of wooden bridges and cobblestone paths around. There are taverns to grab a meal and a butterfly museum by the valley as well. The valley is a well-constructed habitat with ponds, waterfalls, plenty of greenery and the unique Liquidambar Orientalis trees that have a specific secretion which attracts butterflies.
