Kastellorizo is a tiny island, covering just 9 square kilometers, situated on the easternmost edge of Greece. It lies just two kilometers from the coast of Turkey and a great place to experience both Greek and Turkish cultures. It boasts several other unique villages including Ro island. It is a more unexplored side of Greece and great for a quiet laid back vacation.
Kastellorizo boasts a rich history dating back to the early Neolithic era. The island is filled with cobblestone alleys and staircases, admiring Dodecanetian-style architecture and historical landmarks. Some such landmarks include the 1755 mosque housing the Historical Collection of Kastellorizo, the fort-monastery of Agios Georgios tou Vounou, and the 14th-century castle of the Knights Hospitaller. Some other things to do on the island include snorkeling around St. George's Island, exploring the Blue Grotto, or hiking up to the Monastery of Saint George of the Mountain for panoramic views of the island.
