Street of the Knights, Rhodes Island Overview

Street of the Knights of Rhodes is a historic pathway located in the Old Town of Rhodes. This 600-meter-long medieval street is one of the most well-preserved locations on the island. The street is lined with impressive buildings from 15 and 16th centuries, constructed from sandstone. These buildings showcase Gothic architecture with detailed carvings and beautiful facades.

Key attractions include the Hospital of the Knights, now the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes, and the Palace of the Grand Master, a grand fortress that serves as a museum. Seven inns along the street represent the seven "tongues" or nationalities of the Knights Hospitaller—France, Italy, Provence, Auvergne, Aragon, England, and Germany. These inns have been transformed into museums, shops, and restaurants, contributing to the vibrant life of the street. The street’s atmosphere changes dramatically from day to night. During the day, it is bustling with tourists and guided tours, offering a lively experience. At night, the soft glow from the streetlights transport visitors back to the 14th century.
