One of the country's finest collections of art, dating back from the middle ages to the contemporary times, is displayed at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. It features a restaurant and a depot store. Art lovers just cannot miss this place.
The museum began in 1859 when FJO Boijmans bequeathed his fabulous collection of art to the city of Rotterdam. The second part of the name comes from DG van Beuningen, whose collection was added to the museum in 1958. The collections of these two alone was one of the best in the country at the time, and there have been subsequent donations of works over the years making the museum what it is today. The art on display dates back to the middle ages, and comes up to more recent times. Works of world famous artists like Rembrandt and Van Gogh are part of the permanent collection of the museum, as well as superb Old Masters paintings like 'The Three Mary's at the Tomb' and the 'Tower of Babel'.
