New Delft Gate, Rotterdam Overview

New Delft Gate is a modern reinterpretation of Rotterdam's historic city gate, at the intersection of Blaak and Binnenrotte, just a short walk from the Markthal. Designed by artist Cor Kraat in 1995, it serves as a symbolic reconstruction of the original Delftse Poort, which was destroyed during World War II. Made of steel, its reflective surface offers unique photo opportunities, especially during golden hour or at night when it is illuminated.

The original Delftse Poort was one of Rotterdam’s medieval gates and played a crucial role in the city’s fortifications. The current structure honors its memory while embracing modern aesthetics. The site is pedestrian-friendly and easily accessible by public transportation, making it a convenient stop while exploring Rotterdam.
