Ruaha National Park is a massive wildlife reserve in Tanzania's Iringa region, covering an area of 20,000 square kilometers. It became Tanzania's largest national park in 2008 when it merged with the nearby Usangu Game Reserve. Ruaha is home to around 10% of the world's lion population and ranks third in Africa for its wild dog population. The park is rich in wildlife, including over 10,000 elephants, about 30,000 buffalo, over 20,000 zebras, and various other animals, as well as more than 400 bird species.
Ruaha National Park features the impressive Great Ruaha River, known for deep gorges and swift rapids, providing great fishing opportunities. It shares its northern borders with the Kizigio and Rungwa River Game Reserves, creating a vast conservancy. This area is one of East Africa's largest conservation zones, playing a significant role in ecological preservation efforts.
