"The City of Flowers"

Sa Dec Tourism

A hidden gem in the Mekong Delta, the small sleepy town of Sa Dec belongs to the Dong Thap Province. The town has a sense of calmness in the air and does not draw too many tourists. Although a bit of a silent town, it can keep a tourist busy with places such as the old busy market by the river, old mansions and merchant homes, cafes, an old French Chuch and more. Sa Dec is an agricultural town with its extensive trade and practice in agriculture. It is also a river-port and an industrial trading centre. The Sa Dec economic zone consists of Chau Thanh, Lai Vung and Lap Vo districts. The three major industrial zones of the city attract many businessmen from the Mekong Delta region. Sa Dec is also quite popular for its flower nurseries especially during the time of the Tet festival.

Sa Dec was where the French novelist, Marguerite Duras used to live for a brief period in her life for 3-4 years. Sa Dec served as an original setting for her autobiographical novel ‘The Lover’ published in 1984. The culture of Vietnam and its people can truly be witnesses by just taking a stroll on the river-side by the sprawling market. There are ATMs scattered around the city Downtown. There is also a bus station and a hospital in this area, and a post office can be found near the market side.
