The Salzburg Museum is located in the New Residence ( Neue Residenz) on Mozart Square. It is a historic museum showcasing the city's glorious past, artworks showing the archbishops of the area that were religious leaders, a masterpieces gallery and a perfect blend of aesthetic presentation.
It started with a small collection of military memorabilia that was made accessible to the public as memories of the Napoleonic Wars, which now encompasses six different buildings. One of the sightseeing in this museum includes Panoramic passage lined with archaeological excavations from Roman times that connects to the other Museum in the building, the panorama Museum. Pride of the place is the monumental Sattler Panorama, one of the few 360 degree paintings remaining in the world. The Art hall is a multifunctional hall that hosts three major special exhibitions every year. The Second floor houses the Mirror Hall which includes the treasure chamber entitled "Archaeological and the Middle Ages" . The burning of books by Nazis in 1938 is also portrayed.
