Potami, meaning ‘river’ in Greek, is a 730m long beach on the northeast coast of Samos. It is located around 3 km from Karlovasi and is surrounded by thick green vegetation in the distant mountains. Besides relaxing in a sunbed and swimming, you can visit the Agios Nikolaos Church, off the coastline.
The church offers a picturesque view of the crescent-shaped shore that can be captured from the top. The beach is divided into two bays with a rock formation in the middle, cutting the bay in half. This is an ideal posing location for pictures against the azure blue water of the Aegean Sea. The beach gets its name from the mouth of a river located 1.5 km inland, where the stream forms a lovely waterfall. One can spot the Metamorfosis Sotiros Transfiguration Church, built between the 6th-11th century, on the way to the falls. Potami Beach is perhaps the most famous one in the area, despite its ice-cold waters and chilly Northern Winds.
