Located in the central Piazza del Duomo, Duomo di San Gimignano is a historic church is renowned for its well-preserved Romanesque architecture and an extensive collection of frescoes by prominent artists. It is also mostly visited for its serene ambiance that offers a respite from the bustling town.

Consecrated in 1148, the Duomo stands as a testament to Romanesque architectural design. Its unadorned façade contrasts with the richly decorated interior, which houses an impressive array of frescoes. The walls are adorned with cycles depicting scenes from both the Old and New Testaments, crafted by artists such as Bartolo di Fredi and the workshop of Lippo Memmi. Notably, the Chapel of Santa Fina features frescoes by Domenico Ghirlandaio, illustrating the life of Saint Fina, a revered local saint. The church's architectural evolution includes expansions in 1460 by architect Giuliano da Maiano, who added elements like the Chapel of the Conception and the Chapel of St. Fina.
