Situated in Sabah, the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre is one of the most well-known orangutan rehabilitation centres of the world. Sprawling across an area of about 4,500 hectares, it provides a home to about 200 orangutans. While visitors get a chance to get close to these creatures, they can also feed them from a gallery located inside the rehabilitation centre. One can also witness the swinging session of orangutans here.
The history of this centre dates back to 1964. The main aim of establishing the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre was to rescue the orphaned orangutans and to train them to survive in a forest. Some of the other animals who are treated here are elephants, sun bears, and gibbons.
