Edulabad Lake, Secunderabad Overview

Edulabad Lake is located on the Outer Ring Road in Ghatsekar, Telangana, Hyderabad. It was constructed in the 16th century and is often referred to as the Lakshminarayana Cheruvu. The attraction is a favourite bird-watching spot, camping spot, sunrise/sunset point and a picturesque picnic spot. Its 5 square kilometres wide area acts as a natural habitat for a varied species of birds, in fact, it is home to a recorded 152 species of birds. The best time to visit the lake is in winter due to the pattern of bird migration. However, pollution in the lake poses as an uncontrollable problem. Thus, visitors are encouraged to avoid carrying plastic bags and dumping waste within the peripherals of the lake.

Bird-watching is a popular attraction at Edulabad Lake. Usually, bird watching enthusiasts and nature enthusiasts visit at early mornings to capture Ashy Prinias, Red Avadavats, Juvenile Baya Weavers, Pied Kingfishers, Tri-coloured Munias and Scaly-breasted Munias in their natural habitat.

How To Reach Edulabad Lake

Edulabad Lake is located on Outer Ring Road at a distance of 6.8 km from Ghatsekar, Telangana, Hyderabad. This distance can be covered via an auto, private vehicles or buses available from Ghatsekar Bus Stop. The approximate time required to cover this distance is 16 minutes.

The lake is well-connected with buses from nearby places in Telangana like Secunderabad Bus Stop. Buses from Secunderabad will drop the passengers at Bandaraviral Bus Stop (10.4 km from the lake), Jainapally (18.2 km from the lake) and Bibinagar (14.8 km from the lake). The buses from these stations then have direct bus transportation to Edulabad Lake. Apart from this, there are auto services available too. The approximate time required to cover this distance is 30 minutes.

The Ghatsekar Railway Station is at a distance of 7.2 km from the lake. There are no buses available to cover this distance, but auto transportation has made the travel convenient. The approximate time required to cover this distance is 17 minutes.

The nearest airport to Edulabad Lake is the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad which is at a distance of 49 km from the lake. This distance can be covered via pre-booked or hired cabs directly from the airport to the lake. There are bus services available to Ghatsekar from where catching an auto is the most convenient mode of transportation. The approximate time required to cover this distance is an hour.
