Situated on the Curieuse Island, the Giant Tortoise farm is, among other things, a breeding centre for the giant Aldabra tortoises species, which is endemic to the area. The Curieuse island is a short ferry ride away from either Praslin or Victoria and ferries regularly ply the route and the tortoise farm can only be accessed through an organized boat tour. The entry fee to the farm is included in the ticket tariff. After a guided tour by the wardens of the area, you are free to explore the island. It is the best place to meet and learn about the Aldabra tortoises.
On the farm, visitors can get up-close and personal with these giant tortoises, which are known to live to 120 years of age and see how they behave. This is one of the few sanctuaries of this type for Aldabra tortoises and they are essential for conservation and research purposes and are also a popular tourist attraction.
