St. Catherine’s monastery is a renowned UNESCO world heritage site. The ancient pilgrimage exists at the foot of the mountain in Saint Catherine town, Sinai Peninsula. The Oldest inhabited monastery and library in the world, it is home to texts and manuscripts in some of the most ancient languages in the world.
A small museum inside the monastery houses some displays from its large collection of Christian artwork, including mosaics and religious paintings dating back to the 5th century. The monastery was established in 565 AD in the Byzantine Era and is named after Princess Catherine of Alexandria, a Christian Saint and martyr. The ancient Monastery is home to the Burning Bush, which is believed to be the site where Moses saw God and the host of the well where Moses first met his wife. After visiting the monastery, travellers can hike Mount Sinai, which is believed to be the holy site where Moses received the Ten Commandments. Travellers can also stay overnight at one of the guesthouses near the monastery.
