Camollia Gate is one of the northern entrances to Siena. It's a beautiful arched gate both used by vehicles and pedestrians. A splendid bird’s eye view of the countryside can be seen from this spot. It offers a perception of the city’s past and great history which interests many tourists.
This gate is one of the foremost gateways built along the walls which protected the northern front of the town of Siena. During medieval times, pilgrims who visited this city from other parts of Italy entered through this gate. The original gate, constructed in the 13th century, was fully destroyed during the Siege of Siena in 1555. The present Camollia Gate layout dates back to 1604. It was designed and created by Alessandro Casolani. The sculptures that enhance the gate are by Domenico Cafaggi.
