Must-Know Travel Essentials

Situated in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool District, Srisailam is a religious hill town visited primarily for the Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. It is also known for several other temples, a wildlife reserve, rich flora and fauna, and other tourist attractions. With Holidify's diverse range of Srisailam tour packages, you can pay your respects to its temples and also enjoy its natural bounty.

The main attraction in Srisailam is the Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple on the banks of River Krishna. Built by King Harihara Raya of Vijayanagar, it has beautiful carvings. According to the legend, Goddess Parvati cursed sage Bringi to stand, for he only worshipped Lord Shiva, and so the latter offered the sage a third leg so he would be more comfortable. Hence, the temple houses idols of sage Bringi on three legs, Nandi, Sahasralinga and Nataraja.

The temple hosts three darshans; the Darshanam, Pratyaksha Seva (in person) and Paroksha Seva (remote). You can go for the Darshanam between 6:00 am to 3:30 pm and 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The Pratyaksha Seva is held from 7:30 am onwards, while the Paroksha Seva is held from 5:30 am. Only traditional attire is allowed for darshans.

When you travel to Srisailam, you can also visit the Shikharesvara Temple, Bhramaramba Devi Temple and Hemareddy Mallamma Temple. Also, do see Lingala Gattu, where the rocks on the banks of the Ganges form an image of Lord Shiva, ride the ropeway above River Krishna or even take a dip in its waters. Akkamahadevi Caves, housing a shivalinga, is also near the Krishna River.

Srisailam travel packages also include the Srisailam Tiger Reserve, one of India's largest, which spans over an area of 3,568 acres. It is home to tigers, sloth bears, leopards, crocodiles etc. October to February is the best time to visit Srisailam since the weather is suitable for darshans and for visiting the sanctuary.
