Cruiser Aurora, St. Petersburg Overview

The Cruiser Aurora is a historic Russian warship, now preserved as a museum in St. Petersburg. Launched in 1900, it is renowned for its role in the October Revolution of 1917, where a blank shot fired from the ship signaled the start of the assault on the Winter Palace. Moored on the Petrogradskaya Embankment, the Aurora operates as a branch of the Central Naval Museum. Visitors can explore various exhibits detailing the ship's storied past, including crew quarters, medical facilities, and historical artifacts.

Beyond its revolutionary role, the Aurora participated in the Russo-Japanese War, surviving the Battle of Tsushima in 1905. During World War I, it served in the Baltic Sea. In World War II, its armaments were used in the defense of Leningrad, and the ship itself was sunk in 1941, later salvaged and restored.
