Situated by the Yom river, this is a highly respected shrine which has the idol of Phra Mae Ya, a local deity worshipped by the people of Sukhothai. An alternative to the ruins of the historical park, this shrine is a cave temple in a remote part of Sukhothai.
King Ramkhamhaeng the great is known to have built this in remembrance of his mother. The small cave has to be entered via a stairway of nagason the railing. This is a beautiful and unique temple which can make you feel in contrast to the ancient ruins of Old Sukhothai.
