All Saints Church Taiping, Taiping Overview

All Saints Church is a highly alluring wooden church in Taiping city. Founded in 1886 and consecrated in 1887, it is the oldest Christian church in Malaysia. Boasting of gothic architectural design, this church is built of meranti panels with hardwood frames and a louvered tower with four tubular bells. Featuring a timber facade, this church has a stained glass that was created in 1911.

There is a small cemetery dwelling adjacent to this church. This cemetery is stuffed with finely crafted tombstones of some Europeans and young servicemen who lost their lives. This 120-year-old church has undergone some recent developments. It included a multi-purpose hall in 2008. Apart from an administrative office, this holy place of worship is well equipped with washrooms, choir rooms, libraries, and vicarage quarters. The main hall in this church can comfortably accommodate 350 devotees at a time.

History of All Saints Church

It is one of the first English churches in Malay states and belongs to the Anglican Diocese of West Malaysia. Designed by Mr. George A. Lefroy, an Australian architect, this church was opened for worship on 27th March 1887.  In 1907, All Saints’ Church Taiping became the Parish Church of North Perak. The church remains largely unchanged from the time when it was constructed in 1886. The most alluring stained glass in the church that was installed in 1911 surprisingly sustained the second world war and is still undamaged. All Saints Church is one of those rarest churches in Malaysia using the pipe organ whose maintenance requires RM10,000 annually.
