Alisher Navoiy Theater is located near Amir Temur Square, on Islam Karimov Street, and is one of the largest cultural and entertainment facilities in Central Asia. Named after the revered 15th-century poet Alisher Navoiy, the theater is a prominent venue for performing arts, hosting a diverse array of theatrical productions, ballets, and operas. The theater's auditorium, adorned with gilt ornaments and light paint, features a parterre and two tiers, providing seating for up to 1440 people. There are both Uzbek and European works performed throughout the year.
It is among the three theaters that were bestowed with the prestigious Bolshoi status in the Soviet Union. The theater's structure is a unique blend of European and oriental design. The mix of architectural styles forms arched ceilings in galleries and intricate marble decorations. It has six side foyers, each named after different regions in Uzbekistan like Tashkent and Samarkand, with unique styles reflecting the architecture of those regions. The tall arches, look similar to those found in madrasahs, and the tall entrance is topped with towers resembling the minarets of Bukhara. The halls and foyers are adorned with beautiful gypsum fretwork and wall paintings throughout. There is a fountain in front of the theater that is accompanied by light and music.
