Chorsu Bazaar, also known as Charsu Bazaar is over a hundred years old and is the biggest market in Tashkent. The market is divided into three floors; the shops can be found on the top and middle floors. The market provides a cultural experience, from locally produced food items to handmade crafts made by local artisans here. The regional specialties like colorful nuts, spices, and candies make the stalls look kaleidoscopic.
The shops offer a variety of goods like seasonal fruits, dried fruits, bread, fresh meat, and traditional horse meat sausage called “kazy”. Shopkeepers and sellers are very polite and welcoming towards the tourists, although foreigners might need to shop wisely and bargain to avoid being overcharged. On the left side of the market is the bread section, which is often missed by tourists but is very popular among the locals. It is laden with all kinds of traditional Uzbek breads like “quda patir”, “shirmoy non”, and “lochira”. There are many “choykhanas” next to the market where you can enjoy delicious pilaf, shashlyk (grilled meat), hot shurpa (soup), and other local delicacies. Over the years the market’s structure has changed a lot but the traditional architecture of large domed premises is still intact. These blue-colored interconnected domes have oriental patterns adorned on them.
