The Anchiskhati Basilica of St. Mary is one of Tbilisi's oldest surviving churches, steeped in centuries of history and religious significance. Constructed in the 6th century by King Gorgasali’s son Dachi, this small yet revered basilica belongs to the Georgian Orthodox Church and dates from the sixth century. The church is constructed primarily from brick and stone, with its original structural integrity and design largely preserved despite various renovations and restorations over the centuries.
The exterior is relatively austere, with simple, unadorned walls that reflect its ancient origins. Inside, remnants of frescoes from different periods can be seen, offering a glimpse into the artistic heritage and evolving styles of Georgian ecclesiastical art. The church's modest yet enduring structure highlights the resilience and continuity of Georgia's Christian traditions through centuries of change.
