The Tbilisi Funicular Railway offers a scenic ascent to the heights of Mtatsminda, one of the city's most iconic viewpoints. Originally opened in 1905, this historic transportation system provides a breathtaking ride up the mountain, covering a distance of 501 meters. It transports you from Chonkadze street to the Mtatsminda Park, a popular amusement park featuring cafes, restaurants, and stunning panoramic views of Tbilisi.
Apart from the funicular's upper station, you'll find the Mtatsminda Pantheon of Writers and Public Figures, along with St. David’s Church (Mamadaviti). The funicular is also a convenient gateway to the vibrant Mtatsminda Park, where you can find many picnic spots, a Ferris wheel, and many cafes and restaurant. The funicular runs every 10 minutes and completes the one way ride in around 3 minutes.
