The museum collects, researches, preserves, and puts on display items about the traditional and contemporary culture of Macedonia and Thrace, a region between the Balkan Mountains and the Aegean Sea now split between Bulgaria, Turkey, and Greece.
Collections include tools, weapons, household objects, wood and metal work, woven and embroidery textiles, and a huge photographic archive.
