Tumkur History

The region of Tumkur can be traced back to as far as 400 AD under the control of the Ganga family up to 1025 AD. Tumkur came under the rule of the great Vijayanagara Empire from the 13th to 17th century, followed by the Wodeyars of Mysore, who were in power until independence. The Wodeyars of Mysore in 1916 established Tumkur as a town. Additionally, in 2010, it was incorporated into a city corporation alongside twenty-two neighbouring villages.
