Sahastrabahu Temple, Udaipur Overview

The Sahastra Bahu Temple, often known as the Sas Bahu Temple, is essentially a cluster of 10th century temples and shrines in Nagda about 20 km from Udaipur. Set amidst beautiful landscape, it is known for its splendid architecture. It is said that the temple symbolises ancient familial bonds along with the worship of Lord Vishnu.

The attraction comprises a pair of temples around each of which are smaller shrines on a shared platform. Representative of the later Maru-Gurjara style of architecture, both temples face east and feature a mandapa with open projections, an open porch as well as brick shikharas which are now in ruins. The entrance to the temple in the torana style; there is a decorative cusped arch atop four columns. The two temples are famous for their intricate carvings which can be found on the pillars, walls, arches and roofs. Many of these carvings are of deities while others are scenes from mythology. Housed within are idols of Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma, Goddess Saraswati and others, while one would also see carved sculptures of Lord Ram, Lord Balram, etc.
