What's Not Good: Solo travellers pay couples rate which can be heavy on the purse. South India need to warm up to the idea that solo traveller numbers are increasing, male and female alike and in all age groups. Not only the cost of travel but people’s outlook need to change. Most of the temples here are only for believers in faith. Kanyakumari was crowded during the Diwali break. The seashore here is only to soak in the view. Thiruvananthapuram Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple darshan was divine however fleeting it maybe, but the mandapa which adorns the beautiful sculptures is out of bounds for devotees. The Garbhagudi could be well lit, so the devotees can properly catch a glimpse of the lord and be blessed. Since architecture is out of bounds recommend special entry for swift darshan.

Besides the Varkala Formation declared a national geological monument, there is plenty here for nature, culture and adventure lovers. For example, the magnificent Varkala Beach, also known as the Papanasham Beach, is said to wash away sins and is a great place to spend some peaceful time. Moreover, for some beach fun, you can always go swimming, boating, horse-riding and parasailing.
Located nearby are other attractions like the 2,000-year-old Janardana Swami Temple and the Sivagiri Mutt set atop the Sivagiri Hill, a pilgrimage centre where lies the tomb of Sree Narayana Guru. You can also head over to Paruvar to explore its backwaters, visit Kappil Lake, Anjengo Fort or Varkala Tunnel if you have the time!
