Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore, located at Piazza San Zeno in Verona, is a stunning Romanesque church built between the 9th and 12th centuries. It is renowned for its bronze door panels depicting biblical scenes and the masterpiece "Triptych of San Zeno" by Andrea Mantegna. The church's interior features intricate frescoes and a crypt believed to house the remains of Saint Zeno, Verona's patron saint. Visitors also admire the peaceful cloister attached to the basilica.
Consecrated in 807 AD, the basilica features a distinctive façade characterized by alternating tufa stone and brick, creating a warm, striped appearance. Notable elements include the "Wheel of Fortune" rose window and the 12th-century bell tower. Inside, visitors can admire the "Triptych of San Zeno" by Andrea Mantegna and the crypt, traditionally considered the setting for the marriage of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
