Basilica di Santa Anastasia, Verona Overview

Basilica di Santa Anastasia, located in Verona's historic center near the Adige River, is a Gothic church built between the 13th and 15th centuries. Known for its intricately decorated interior, the church houses the famous fresco "St. George and the Princess" by Pisanello and elaborately sculpted holy water stoups supported by hunchbacks. The soaring vaulted ceilings and colorful chapels make it a masterpiece of Gothic architecture.

Its construction began around 1290 under the Dominican order, with significant support from the Della Scala family, who ruled Verona from the late 13th to the late 14th century. The basilica features three expansive aisles supported by twelve imposing pillars of red Veronese marble. Notable artworks include Pisanello's fresco "St. George and the Princess" and intricately carved holy water stoups supported by hunchback figures.
