Teatro Romano de Verona

Roman Theatre, Verona Overview

Teatro Romano, located on the northern bank of the Adige River in Verona, was built in the 1st century BC and is one of the city's most significant Roman-era landmarks. The ancient theater is partially restored and hosts open-air performances and cultural events during the summer months. Visitors can explore its stone seating, stage area, and the adjoining archaeological museum, which displays artifacts discovered at the site.

Built into the slopes of San Pietro hill, it originally extended from the Adige River to the hilltop, showcasing the grandeur of Roman architecture. Over the centuries, the theater was buried under various structures, including residential buildings and religious establishments. Excavations in the 19th century led to its rediscovery and partial restoration. Today, visitors can explore the remnants of the cavea (seating area), orchestra, and stage, as well as the adjoining Archaeological Museum, which houses artifacts from Verona's Roman past.
