The city of Vizianagaram is a place packed with the glory of the past and relics of ancient traditions and rituals in form of a majestic fort. The headquarters of the district, this place is also home to an ancient temple of Pydithalli Ammavaru.
The presiding deity of the temple is Pydithallamma and as per the legend, the daughter of the Pasupati Royal family was the incarnation of the Goddess. This temple is quite famous as devotees believe that blessing of the Goddess grants you a happy life. On the sacred day of Vijayadashmi, the idol of the presiding deity was discovered in year 1752 and hence every this day is celebrated with jatra on 21st and 22nd October. Moddukovillu temple is another famous attraction in the city where the presiding deity is Lord Shiva and one can witness a double colored Siva lingam. The double colour of lingam depicts the union of male and female counterparts of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. As per the folklore, the temple was established by an old woman who dreamt of it while on her way to Kashi.
