Zagreb Botanical Garden is a magnificent garden that is a part of Lenuci horseshoe, a green space in Zagreb's lower city, located in the centre of the capital. The Garden, designed in an English landscape style, includes rock gardens, ponds, symmetrical French-style flower beds and trees and shrubs from around the world.
Covering an area of 5 hectares in the heart of Zagreb, it is home to over 10,000 plant species from around the world, including 1,800 exotic ones. It also features a number of interesting architectural buildings: the administration building (Art-Nouveau style), Botanical Institute building and the exhibition hall from the year 1891, which was recently reconstructed. The most photographed part is a small lake with a bridge that crosses it. During summer months, the Garden hosts concerts on Thursdays at 5:30pm. Founded in 1889 by Professor Antun Heinz, as part of the Faculty of Science, it opened in the year 1899 as a landscaped garden.
