Gric Cannon, Zagreb Overview
A loud band that marks the daily ritual of firing at noon, Lotrscak Tower located in Zagreb, Croatia houses a cannon at its rooftop which is a symbol of Zagreb's resilience and perseverance. Due to its historical value, it's protected as a cultural heritage of Croatia.
This historic tower was built with the purpose of defending the city. According to legends, it marks the victory of Zagreb over Turks because this cannon destroyed the camps of Turks across the Sava river and then they never tried to attack Zagreb. The theme of the firing of the cannon has also been shooted for various movies, TV shows and video games. It has also inspired similar traditions and practices in the world like the Noonday Gun in Hong Kong. The responsibility of firing the cannon has been given to just four people since 140 years and wearing of light blue uniform by these firers is also a tradition.
