Blue Caves, Zakynthos Overview

The famous Blue caves of Zakynthos are located at Cape Skinari, on the western coast of the island near Volimes village. These caves are famous all across Greece for their reflective surfaces as the enchanting blue shades of the waters and sky sparkle off the walls. It is one of Greece's most mesmerising snorkelling and underwater diving spots. The blue caves can only be accessed via boats or diving from the nearest shore. The best time to visit is during the mornings to get a clear view of the reflections.

The caves are astonishingly beautiful due to their underwater view and the presence of vibrant corals within the sea. Some caves are even big enough for boats to pass through. The highlight is the main formation, called the blue cave, which is surrounded by upside-down and pointed structures called stalactites. It is also the biggest cave among the rock formations. The caves are, actually, geological arches created due to natural erosion extending over thousands of years. Private boats for rent or organised tours are available throughout the town. Makris Gialos Beach, Agios Nikolaos beach, and shipwreck beach are other popular stops on boat tours.
