The Bochali Venetian Castle is located on the Bochali hill in Zakynthos town on the southeastern end of the island. The enormous entry gate has two canons on either side and an archway with the emblem of the St. Macros Lion. The large watchtower towards the end of the castle provides a scenic view of the coastline of Zakynthos. Ruins of several 15th-century churches, gunpowder storage rooms, and barracks can be found within the castle walls.
The castle is made up of stone walls and has elements of Cretan architecture. Take a short but steep hike from the base car parking to reach the castle. The castle was built in 1684 and was damaged over the years due to wars and earthquakes. It also served as a central building for the British and Venetian administrations on the island. Several cafes and restaurants are located in close vicinity.
