Solomos Square is the central square in the capital city, located just on the Zakynthos port on the island's east coast. The public square is a popular cultural spot for tourists and locals alike. It is home to some of the town’s most notable structures, including the cultural centre, which incorporates the municipal library, a cinema, and a small art gallery.
Statues of poets and historical personalities, such as poets Dionysios Solomos, Ugo Foscolo, and Paul Karrer, are adorned around the square. Several traditional restaurants, major attractions and tourist shops are scattered throughout the square. Solomos square was named after the Zakynthonian poet Dionysios Solomos who wrote the Greek national anthem. The Agios Dionysios church, the Bochali viewing point, and the Bochali Venetian Castle are far from Solomos Square. The Byzantine Museum of Zakynthos is a must-visit for art and history enthusiasts. The famous church of Saint Nicholas, which was the only ancient church on the island to survive the 1953 earthquake, is also located here. Tourists can take boat trips around the island to the famous Shipwreck beach or Blue caves from the Zakynthos port.
