Theater am Neumarkt, today is a modern theatre that hosts regular plays that never fail to impress the audience. It is located in Neumarkt, Old town. The theatre offers contemprory plays along with some performances for kids, time to time.
The theatre houses 220 seats in the hall and another additional 40 seats at the external stage. Every season, the theatre three different theatrical themes to ensure the explores up to its maximum ability. Often school children showcase their talent here as well.
Designed and built by renowned architect David Morf in 1742 as a guild house for shoemakers, Theater am Neumarkt is registered as a cultural heritage building under the Swiss Inventory of Cultural Property. In the Early 1940s, the building was converted to be used as a theatre to host guest performances. It was the second theatre stage in Zurich that hosted contemporary plays. The theatre is disabled friendly and happily reserves space for visitors on wheelchairs.
