Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Moshi to Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut
After breakfast, transfer to the Marangu Gate for registration. The trek begins with a scenic hike through lush rainforest. Enjoy the vibrant flora and fauna as you ascend to Mandara Hut, situated at an altitude of 2,700 meters. This section of the trail is well-maintained, making it accessible for climbers of varying abilities. The walk typically takes around 4-5 hours, providing ample time to enjoy the stunning views along the way. Upon arrival at the hut, settle into your accommodation and enjoy a warm meal, while soaking in the beauty of your surroundings.
Rise early for breakfast, then continue your ascent towards Horombo Hut at 3,720 meters. This day is vital for acclimatization, allowing your body to adjust to higher altitudes. The trek takes approximately 6-8 hours and transitions from rainforest to moorland, showcasing the unique flora of Kilimanjaro, including giant lobelias and the fascinating senecio plants. Along the way, take breaks to admire the stunning views of Mawenzi Peak. Upon arrival at Horombo Hut, enjoy dinner and prepare for a restful night before the next leg of the journey.
This day is dedicated to acclimatization, an essential part of your Kilimanjaro experience. After breakfast, take a short hike to Zebra Rocks or nearby Mawenzi Ridge. This trek allows your body to adjust to the altitude while offering spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Return to Horombo Hut for lunch, and spend the afternoon relaxing and hydrating. Acclimatization is critical for a successful summit attempt, so take this time to prepare mentally and physically for the challenge ahead.
Today, trek from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut at an elevation of 4,703 meters. The journey typically takes around 6-8 hours, transitioning from the moorland to alpine desert. As you climb, you'll notice the landscape becoming more arid and rockier, signaling your approach to the summit zone. Upon reaching Kibo Hut, rest and prepare for the final ascent. Dinner will be served early to ensure you are well-rested for the challenging climb to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Kilimanjaro, which begins late at night.
The most challenging yet rewarding day begins with an early wake-up call. After a light breakfast, commence the ascent to Uhuru Peak. This section is steep and can be physically demanding, so take it slowly, focusing on your breathing and hydration. The trek typically takes 6-8 hours to reach the summit. Once at Uhuru Peak, revel in the achievement and breathtaking views across the African landscape. After a brief celebration, begin the descent back to Kibo Hut, followed by a further descent to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved rest and dinner.
After breakfast at Horombo Hut, begin your final descent to Marangu Gate. This hike usually takes about 5-6 hours, allowing for reflection on your remarkable journey. Upon arrival at the gate, celebrate your achievement with your team and receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for overnight stay, where you can unwind and share stories of your adventure. Enjoy a farewell dinner and prepare for your departure, carrying unforgettable memories of your Kilimanjaro experience.

Best Time to Visit

    • December to March: Warmer temperatures and clearer skies; February is particularly favorable.
    • June to October: Cooler temperatures but busier trails.
  • Rainy Seasons:
    • Short rains (November to mid-December) and long rains (March to May) are less popular for climbing due to wet and slippery conditions. However, these times may offer solitude with fewer climbers.

I had the most unforgettable safari experience with Maramatta Safaris! From start to finish, the team took care of everything, making my solo journey from Arusha to the Serengeti seamless. My guide, R (Read More)ichard, was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating insights about the wildlife and the Serengeti. It was like being on a tour with a walking encyclopaedia! Blanca from Maramatta Safaris was equally amazing—kind, respectful, and attentive to all my needs. I felt completely safe and well looked after throughout the entire trip. The wildlife sightings were nothing short of breathtaking. I saw lions, elephants, zebras, and so much more, all in their natural habitat. It was truly an unforgettable experience ? I can't recommend Maramatta Safaris enough. They cater to every type of traveller, and their attention to detail ensures you have the best experience possible. If you're thinking about booking an in Tanzania, I highly recommend booking with them!

My trip with Maramatta Safaris was absolutely incredible! I chose the 5-day Tarangire & Ngorongoro Crater package, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. From the moment I arrived in Arush (Read More)a, everything was perfectly organized. The team ensured I felt comfortable and ready for the adventure ahead. Tarangire was stunning—so many elephants everywhere! There was one moment where we got really close to a family of elephants as they walked right past our vehicle. It was thrilling, but I always felt safe with our guide, who was a total pro. Ngorongoro Crater, though, took my breath away. The scenery alone was jaw-dropping, and I spotted the elusive black rhino, which I’d been hoping for! The game drives were seamless, and I learned so much from our guide about the history and ecology of the crater. The accommodations Maramatta Safaris arranged were also top-notch. After a day of game viewing, it was wonderful to relax in comfortable lodges with great food and warm hospitality. The entire trip felt like a dream come true. For anyone looking to explore the wild beauty of Tanzania, I highly recommend Maramatta Safaris. Their attention to detail, professionalism, and passion for showcasing the best of Tanzania really shines through. Can’t wait to come back for another safari!
