Arrive at Bagdogra Airport/NJP Railway Station and transfer to Phuentsholing, the gateway to Bhutan. Phuentsholing is a vibrant commercial town at the Himalayan foothills, blending Indian and Bhutanese cultures.
In the evening, visit Zangtho Pelri Lhakhang, a beautiful temple representing the heaven of Guru Rinpoche, located in the city center. Later, explore Phuentsholing town and market.
After breakfast, drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. En route, visit Kharbandi Gompa, a monastery built in 1967 by the Royal Grandmother, Ashi Phuntsho Choedron, offering stunning views of Phuentsholing and the plains of West Bengal. Stop at Gedu University for a scenic photo break, pass through Chukha Town & Chimakothi, and take a brief stop at Chuzom, where Paro and Thimphu rivers meet.
On arrival, check into the hotel. Thimphu, a city blending ancient traditions with modern development, is perhaps the only capital city in the world without traffic lights. In the evening, take an exploratory walk around Thimphu city center.
After breakfast, visit Memorial Chorten, built in 1974 in honor of Bhutan’s third king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. Proceed to Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang), where a giant 169-feet Buddha statue overlooks the Thimphu Valley. Visit Changangkha Lhakhang, a 12th-century temple where locals seek blessings for newborns. Stop at Simply Bhutan Museum to experience Bhutanese culture, try archery, taste traditional butter tea (Suja), and sample Ara, a local spirit.
Drive towards Punakha, stopping at Dochula Pass (3,088m) to admire 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens and enjoy panoramic views of the Himalayas. Upon arrival, check into the hotel and have a riverside picnic lunch.
In the afternoon, visit Punakha Dzong, also known as the “Palace of Great Happiness,” built at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers in 1637. Explore the scenic Punakha Suspension Bridge, a popular spot for photography.
After breakfast, drive back to Paro, descending from Dochula Pass and passing through Wang Chhu and Paro Chhu river valleys. En route, visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in Bhutan, constructed in 1629 to subdue an evil spirit.
Later in the afternoon, visit the National Museum (Ta Dzong), which was originally built as a watchtower and now houses antique thangkha paintings, textiles, weapons, and historical artifacts. Walk down the trail to Rinpung Dzong, also known as the “Fortress of the Heap of Jewels,” which features intricate Buddhist murals and wall paintings.
In the evening, take a stroll around Paro city center.
After breakfast, embark on a hike to Taktshang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), a sacred monastery perched 900m above the Paro Valley. It is believed that Guru Rinpoche meditated here after arriving on a flying tigress. This hike is considered one of the most iconic experiences in Bhutan.
In the afternoon, visit Drukgyel Dzong, a ruined fortress where Bhutanese warriors fought Tibetan invaders centuries ago. Stop by Kyichu Lhakhang, a 7th-century temple built by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo, marking the introduction of Buddhism to Bhutan.
After breakfast, drive back to Phuentsholing. En route, take a short stop at the Chukhha Hydropower Project viewpoint, one of Bhutan’s major power plants. Arrive in Phuentsholing by late afternoon and check into the hotel.
In the evening, enjoy free time in Phuentsholing town or explore Jaigaon, the border town in West Bengal.
After breakfast, transfer to Bagdogra Airport/NJP Railway Station for your onward journey. Our guide and driver will assist you with immigration exit formalities before departure.
