Itinerary

A private walking tour is a great way to see the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum in Athens. The tour will be led by a professional guide who will show you around the ancient site and tell you all about its history. Your guide will meet you in the front of the Acropolis Museum or at your exact location if it is nearby. We can arrange entrance tickets for you to the Acropolis Museum and the Acropolis Slopes Precinct - you'll get in without having to queue. The first stop on your private walking tour is at the Propylaea, which was built by Mnesicles in 437 BC. It was designed to be a grand entrance with two large Doric columns on either side of the path up to the gates. The Propylaea served as a ceremonial gateway for visitors, who would enter through it onto the Sacred Way that led from Athens to Eleusis. It was also used for many other purposes, such as an assembly place, meeting hall, and shelter for the people of Athens. The Propylaea is an impressive gateway, built on the site of an ancient temple to Athena. It consists of three temples connected to each other by a long wall with four large corner towers. The main entrance was at the eastern end, and was only accessible to those who paid the high fee for admittance (one drachma ). The city-state of Athens was founded on the Acropolis, a relatively small hill about twenty-five metres high. The Acropolis was an important place for ancient Greeks because it marked the centre of their religious and political life. The grand temple in honour of the goddess Athena on top of the Acropolis is thought to have been built around 450 BC by Peisistratos, the Greek tyrant. The ancient ruins on the Acropolis of Athens are still an important part of Greek culture and history, allowing visitors to learn about Greece’s past. In addition, many theatre companies perform plays that are based on events from the last century. This tour is the best way to see Athens in a short period of time. You will be able to see not just two of the most popular sites in Athens. You will also be able to see many other sites such as the the Parthenon, Agora, Temple of Athena Nike, Panathenaic Stadium, National Gardens, and more!
