Itinerary

Afternoon Tour Driving along the coastal road past the wonderful beaches of Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza and countless coves, you have a splendid view of the Saronic Gulf. A crowning feature of the tour Cape Sounion is, the Temple of Poseidon, god of the sea. Standing atop sheer cliffs overlooking the Aegean Sea, the marble temple has served as a landmark for sailors from ancient times until today. The "Sanctuary of Sounion" is first mentioned in the Odyssey, as the place where Menelaus stopped during his return from Troy to bury his helmsman, Phrontes Onetorides. Construction on the grand Temple of Poseidon began around 500 BC but was never completed; the temple and all the votive offerings were destroyed by the Persians in 480 BC. The Temple of Poseidon that now stands at Sounio was built in 444 BC atop the older temple ruins. After the guided tour of the Temple we return to Athens approximately at 7pm.

we would just have to change the guide! a so-called visit in French where the guide regularly forgot that French people were present...for the little she told us, we might as well go without a guide! (Read More)fortunately the temple is simply magnificent!!

Very interesting activities, however the time spent on the site could be increased.

Very disappointing organization. Departure of the activity with 45 minutes fade delay, I specify that we had been at the meeting point since 2 p.m. The guide, very kind, but did not translate correctl (Read More)y and the microphone of the bus did not work properly we heard crackling. We arrived at Cape Sounion at 4:50 p.m. greeted by the police explaining to us that the President of the Republic as well as other members of the Greek government were to come for a private concert so we had to leave at 5:20 p.m. The price of the activity included 30 minutes of guided tour with a French-speaking guide and 30 minutes of free time or 1 hour at the temple of Poseidon. The time for the entrance tickets to be purchased we had 20 minutes on site without a guide. We spent the afternoon on a bus for 102 euros that is expensive. We would have had the same result by going to Cape Town ourselves and that for a much more interesting price. A refund would be welcome.

This was a well organised day trip to the Temple of Poseidon and the guide was lovely and provided a lot of information on the drive to Cape Sounio and at the Temple of Poseidon. However, there is ver (Read More)y limited free time at the Temple of Poseidon and most of the time is spent driving to and back from Cape Sounio.

The maps of Athens and Greece were not delivered as announced in the activity description. The air conditioning inside the bus was too loud. The guide was friendly.

The guide was friendly and knowledgeable enough but very difficult to understand her English.

The guide spoke 80% in English. Very succinct explanations in French. His speech is smooth and difficult to understand, too monotonous and the delivery very fast. Not at all in the exchange.
