Itinerary

Head to Cape Sounion to explore the Archaeological Site of Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon on a half-day trip from Athens, with hotel transfers and entry fees included and with a zero carbon footprint. See remnants of an ancient town and learn about the Golden Age of Athens from your guide. Start with a bus ride along the scenic coastal road. While passing through some of Athen's most beautiful suburbs such as Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, and Varkiza, enjoy the splendid views of the Saronic Gulf. Listen to your expert archaeologist escort and learn about the mythology linked to the temple before reaching the archaeological site. Arrive at Cape Sounion, a historically significant area of Greece. The steep cliffs offer sweeping panoramic views, and on a clear day, you can see the surrounding islands. Entering the site, explore at your own pace the 5th-century BC Temple of Poseidon, dedicated to the God of the Sea in Greek mythology and see the columns that still stand today as a reminder of the Athenian Empire. Enjoy for one hour the historical place with the breathtaking view. After experiencing the monuments and ruins of ancient Greece, if you chose it, finish your day by watching the sunset over this legendary horizon. Relax on the drive back to Athens.

The tour itself was good, my only complaint was that we were told immediately upon starting the tour that we may not make to the site before they close. Maybe you should make the tour leave 15 to 20 m (Read More)inutes earlier so this doesn’t happen again. We made it in time but were still 20 minutes behind schedule, which made us lose those 20 minutes at the site. It made the trip stressful from the start and then felt rushed at the site.

The cape Suonio is amazing as well as the coastal road that leads to it from Athens. Unfortunately we didn't have much time there. Pro tip: get the entrance tickets prior as there is long waiting time (Read More), so it's waste of time. The tour time wasn't managed very well. Here it says departure at 3.30 pm. Then I got message from agency that it's 2.45pm. And then after all we started at 3pm. It total we had less than 1h there. There were many people and it was hard to catch good spot to watch sunset or have the full uninterrupted view on the sea. With this program you don't have time for anything else: nor snacks, souvenirs or bathroom break. You can do these things only if you skip the sunset which doesn't make sense since everyone is there only for this. The tour guide wasn't talkative and gave minimum required information. I recommend visiting the cape just with different tourist agency.

not really a guided tour, more just a bus to the temple

It would have been nice to have it be an extra half hour longer with a stop along the coast somewhere on the drive out there.
