Itinerary
Discover the awe-inspiring beauty and rich history of Milan's iconic cathedral on our guided tour, a must-see for visitors seeking to explore one of the most renowned architectural masterpieces in the world. The Milan Cathedral, known as the Duomo di Milano, stands as a breathtaking symbol of faith, devotion, and centuries of artistic achievement. This tour offers an unforgettable experience, combining an exploration of the cathedral's majestic interior and a thrilling ascent to its rooftop terraces, where stunning views of the city await. Your journey begins at the base of the cathedral, where your knowledgeable guide will introduce you to the fascinating history of this Gothic marvel. Construction of the Milan Cathedral began in 1386 and spanned nearly six centuries, resulting in a fusion of styles that make the Duomo a unique monument in the world of architecture. As you approach the towering façade, you’ll be captivated by the intricate details of the exterior—over 135 marble spires, 3,400 statues, and countless gargoyles that adorn the cathedral, each one telling its own story through meticulous craftsmanship. Entering the cathedral, you’ll be greeted by an overwhelming sense of grandeur and serenity. The vast interior is an awe-inspiring space, supported by massive columns that soar toward the ceiling like a forest of stone. Your guide will lead you through the expansive halls, highlighting the architectural innovations that make this cathedral one of the largest in Europe. From the vaulted ceilings to the delicate tracery of the windows, every detail reveals the ambition and artistry of the craftsmen who dedicated their lives to building this monumental structure. As you walk through the cathedral’s grand nave, your attention will be drawn to the breathtaking stained glass windows that bathe the interior in a kaleidoscope of colors. These windows are not only decorative but serve as a visual narrative of biblical stories, saints, and religious symbols, created with remarkable skill by master glaziers over centuries. You’ll learn how these windows reflect the spiritual and artistic evolution of the cathedral, standing as silent witnesses to the history of Milan and its people. Another highlight of the tour is the sculptural details that fill the cathedral’s many chapels and altars. Among these is the statue of Saint Bartholomew, a hauntingly realistic figure draped in his own flayed skin, sculpted by Marco d'Agrate in the 16th century. This striking piece, along with many others, offers a glimpse into the artistic genius and theological depth that have made the Duomo a beacon of religious art. Your guide will also introduce you to the Tomb of Gian Giacomo Medici and the stunning Golden Madonna, a revered symbol of Milan perched atop the cathedral’s highest spire..
