Built to save the ecosystem for several bird species, the Okhla Bird Sanctuary expands over an area of 3.5 square kilometres near the Okhla bridge that runs across the majestic River Yamuna. The sanctuary is home to over 400 species of native birds and about 1,00,000 migratory birds, making it a famous attraction for bird watching.
Located on the northern side of the Aravalli Hill range, Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary is an escape from the chaos. Being surrounded by a wide array of birds, the sanctuary offers a tryst with nature for the picnic-goers. There are five hidden lakes at the Sanctuary too which make this the perfect picnic spot for summers.
Across the popular Najafgarh Lake is the Najafgarh Jheel Bird Sanctuary composed of wetland ecosystem and wildlife habitat. Some bird species spotted here include Black Kite, Red-wattled Lapwing, Cattle Egret, Golden Eagle, pigeons, koel bird, Myna Bird, Tailor Bird, Warbler, and waterbirds.
The Surajpur Bird Sanctuary, located in Greater Noida, attracts migratory birds during the winter season. Popular bird species spotted here are Red-Crested Pochard, Comb Duck, Bar-Headed Goose, and Common Teal.
Sprawling over a large forest area near Vasant Kunj in South Delhi, Sanjay Van is a thickly wooded area that serves as the city’s green lungs. Stretching over 3 sq. km of area, it is frequented by a lot of birdwatchers. Popular bird spotted here include Eurasian golden oriole, purple sunbird, Asian koel, Brahminy starling, Indian silverbill, white-throated kingfisher, Grey-breasted Prinia, crested honey buzzard, rufous treepie, and Indian paradise flycatcher.
Expanding over 1.54 square kilometres, Aravalli Biodiversity Park houses about 160 plant species, over 170 species of birds and animals. It is frequented by bird watchers due to the huge number of bird species spotted here.
Located in Civil Lines, the Kamala Nehru Ridge Park is home to over 70 species of resident birds. It also attracts migratory birds during the winter season.
